The coal age will sooner or later come to an end in Germany. The regions affected by this are faced with the major task of shaping this structural change. To do so, they need partners in politics, business, science and, of course, society.

After the Ruhr region in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Central German mining area and Lusatia are now the focus of these changes. By financing and establishing two large-scale research centres on astrophysics (Lusatia) and the chemistry of the future (Central German region), fundamental advances in knowledge are to be transformed into new technologies, start-ups and other cooperative ventures with industry and small and medium-sized enterprises in order to further develop the regions into sustainable and innovative centres with interesting jobs.

Smart Mobility Lab presented

Education and thus science are the key to triggering this change. That's why, in addition to supporting the German Centre for Astrophysics, TU Dresden is involved in a wide range of projects in Lusatia - linked by the decentralised TUD | Campus Lusatia. Energy, mobility, the circular economy and social change are the central themes here.

In the current special page of the TU Dresden in the Sächsische Zeitung on June 30, 2023, two projects are presented in more detail:

• Smart Mobility Lab, which is being set up near Hoyerswerda and addresses all facets of the topic of mobility.
• Landnetz, a research project dedicated in particular to the future of agriculture.
